For desktops, I'd totally say build your own. Newegg.com is my friend.
If you'd rather get a pre-built, I've heard good things about Widow PC, asaudiate mentioned above. Also, Falcon Northwest makes some of the best systems out there. I usually check them out to see what the "top of the line" is at the time, and base my builds off that.
